Recap: Tyler Anderson Extends Scoreless Streak; Dodgers Sweep Diamondbacks

Tyler Anderson turned in another scoreless start to help lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 3-1 win that completed a second consecutive four-game series sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Coming off a season-high eight innings, Anderson held the Diamondbacks to just five hits and one walk. He collected six strikeouts and has thrown 20 consecutive scoreless innings. The last time Anderson allowed a run was to the Diamondbacks in the first inning on May 17.

Arizona’s biggest threat on Sunday came when Trea Turner’s error left two on with one out. Anderson promptly induced another double-play ball that he helped the Dodgers convert by throwing accurately to second base before Gavin Lux finished off the inning with a strong throw.

That preserved Anderson’s scoreless streak and a Dodgers lead that had been built behind power and manufactured offense.

Will Smith ended a 12-pitch at-bat against Zach Davies by lifting a solo home run into the pool area during the second inning.

After Lux hit a leadoff single and Austin Barnes followed with a walk, Mookie Betts’ productive at-bat advanced both runners. Freddie Freeman promptly capitalized by lining an RBI single into left field.

Although it did not bring in a run, Turner later extended his hitting streak to 21 games.

Craig Kimbrel allowed a two-out RBI triple to pinch-hitter David Peralta before converting the save. Kimbrel was unavailable Saturday due to not feeling well.

Pillar makes Dodgers debut

In what’s expected to be the first of two consecutive starts, Kevin Pillar made his Dodgers debut on Sunday. He went hitless in three at-bats but did make a terrific diving catch in the fourth inning.

Pillar had his contract selected as part of a flurry of roster moves on Saturday that included placing Max Muncy on the 10-day injured list due to left elbow inflammation.
