Recap: Michael Conforto Helps Dodgers Get Series Split With Mets

Landon Knack surrendered a career-high-tying three home runs but the Los Angeles Dodgers continued to chip away at their deficit throughout the day and finished their homestand with a 6-5 comeback win against the New York Mets.

The Dodgers lead all teams with 21 comeback wins this season.

Knack prevented the Mets from scoring in the first inning, which was a first for Dodgers pitching in the series, but then gave up a leadoff home run to Pete Alonso in the second.

The homer was Alonso’s third in less than 24 hours and his 10th in 22 career games at Dodger Stadium during the regular season. Alonso hit just one home run against the Dodgers in the National League Championship Series last year, but four this season.

The Mets added onto their lead in the third inning behind back-to-back home runs from Brandon Nimmo and Startling Marte, and Brett Baty’s sacrifice fly.

Knack pitched just 3.1 innings and set a career high with five walks. It was a disappointing outing after the right-hander had gone six innings in each of his last two starts.

The Dodgers began to rally in the bottom of the third when a Miguel Rojas walk sparked their comeback effort. Shohei Ohtani followed with a single and Mookie Betts put the Dodgers on the board with an RBI double. Will Smith hit an RBI single and Teoscar Hernández grounded into a force out to drive in a third run.

Jack Dreyer and José Ureña initially kept the deficit at 4-3, but the offense never seemed able to fully get out their own way. Kiké Hernández grounded into a double play in the fourth inning and Tommy Edman did so in the sixth.

Sandwiched in between was Smith and Teoscar Hernández both stranding a pair of runners in the fifth inning.

David Peterson finished with six strikeouts as he got through seven innings. He went 7.2 innings and held the Dodgers to two runs while collecting seven strikeouts in a start at Citi Field last month.

After an intentional walk of Soto in eighth inning, Alonso lined an RBI single into right field that extended the Mets’ lead to 5-3.

The Dodgers responded with three runs in bottom half, aided by the Mets botching a play at the plate. Michael Conforto pushed the Dodgers ahead with what held as the game-winning RBI single.

Tanner Scott converted his 11th save of the season.

Dodgers salvage homestand

By earning a split of the four-game series with the Mets, the Dodgers also finished with a winning record on their homestand at 4-3.
