The Los Angeles Dodgers again failed to generate much offense en route to a 2-0 loss that resulted in being swept by the San Francisco Giants to conclude their road trip. L.A. went 2-4 on that stretch and has lost nine of their past 13 games.

Carlos Rodón held them to two hits over six scoreless innings. The Dodgers had at least one baserunner in four of Rodón’s innings, but struggled to take advantage of those opportunities. Will Smith (double), Freddie Freeman (walk) and Chris Taylor (double, twice) were each stranded after reaching to lead off an inning.

Taylor’s second leadoff double of the game came against John Brebbia in the seventh, and Max Muncy later walked, but Austin Barnes and Mookie Betts were unable to take advantage. Trea Turner and Justin Turner were stranded after their respective singles in the eighth inning.

The Dodgers left nine on base and went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position. Betts was among the Dodgers to remain in a prolonged rut, finishing 2-for-22 with six strikeouts while starting all six games on the road trip.

An inability to provide run support led to Julio Urías suffering a tough-luck loss. He surrendered solo home runs to Austin Slater and Mike Yastrzemski in the first inning, but followed that by retiring 16 batters in a row.

The string was snapped by Darin Ruf’s two-out double in the sixth inning, though nothing came of it.

Urías also managed to get his pitch count under control to make it through six innings. He finished with season-high 10 strikeouts without issuing a walk, and held the Giants to just the two solo homers.

Taylor bloodied

Taylor was removed in the bottom of the eighth inning after crashing into the wall in left field while trying to make a running catch. Blood was streaming down Taylor’s forehead as he walked off the field with a towel to his face.

Dodgers beginning Interleague homestand

The Dodgers are off Monday before beginning a five-game homestand comprised of all Interleague opponents in the L.A. Angels and Cleveland Guardians.
