Recap: Julio Urías Has Strong Start In Dodgers’ Win Over Guardians

The Los Angeles Dodgers didn’t solve all of their offensive woes but collected 11 hits in a 7-1 comeback win against the Cleveland Guardians. The teams now will meet for a rubber match at Dodger Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Julio Urías allowed just one run (unearned) over six innings, and would have pitched a shutout if not for Max Muncy’s error. Though, the Guardians were in position to score thanks to Urías issuing two walks in the first inning.

Urías nearly stranded both baserunners but Muncy was unable to handle a grounder at second base, allowing it to go through his legs on the error.

Urías went on to retire 13 of the next 14 batters faced before allowing a leadoff double to Amed Rosario in the sixth inning, but nothing came of it.

By then the Dodgers had taken a 5-1 lead behind power and some improvement in situational hitting.

With two on and one out in the second inning, Austin Barnes’ sacrifice fly tied the game. Trea Turner, who again was moved up to the leadoff spot due to Mookie Betts getting scratched because of soreness in his right ribs, followed with a two-run home run to put L.A. ahead.

That additionally extended Turner’s hitting streak to 11 games. In addition to the current stretch, Turner has produced hitting streaks of 27, 26 and 16 games since being traded to the Dodgers last year.

Extra-base hits by Justin Turner and Gavin Lux put the Dodgers up 5-1 in the third inning. Turner later drew a walk with the bases loaded in the sixth, and another run scored in the seventh on a throwing error by Guardians relief pitcher Nick Sandlin.

Dodgers unveil Sandy Koufax statue

Prior to Saturday’s game, the Dodgers unveiled a Sandy Koufax statue in the center field plaza of Dodger Stadium. Dodgers owner Mark Walter, MLB special assistant Joe Torre and Clayton Kershaw each spoke during the ceremony, which was emceed by Charley Steiner.
