Recap: Freddie Freeman’ Sac Fly Delivers Dodgers Rubber Match Win Vs. Rangers

The Los Angeles Dodgers took the series rubber match from the Texas Rangers, 1-0, in a pitcher’s duel where neither side found success on offense.

The Dodgers offense continued their early season struggles, and they were even more noticeable as they had just three hits in the game. Still, they found a way to scratch a run across late in the game.

Austin Barnes had their first hit, which came in the third inning with one out, and Teoscar Hernández hit a leadoff double in the fourth, but he was left stranded.

It wasn’t until the eighth inning when Will Smith singled that the Dodgers had another hit. That was followed by a walk from Shohei Ohtani and two fly outs, the latter of which was a sacrifice fly from Freddie Freeman that gave them a 1-0 lead.

The Rangers offense also couldn’t string any rallies together. They tallied just five hits, with Josh Smith accounting for three of them and Jonah Heim the other on a check swing that went just far enough to push the ball into left field.

Wyatt Langford had an infield single in the ninth for their final hit, but he was caught stealing to end the game.

For the Rangers, it was Tyler Mahle who tossed seven shutout innings before Chris Martin entered in the eighth and allowed the go-ahead run.

The Dodgers had to rely on the bullpen more as Tyler Glasnow had to exit the game with an injury. The group combined to shutout the Rangers for five innings, with Luis García, Anthony Banda, Ben Casparius, Jack Dreyer and Evan Phillips all making an appearance before Tanner Scott recorded the save.

Tyler Glasnow suffers injury in Dodgers series finale

Glasnow completed four scoreless innings before being removed from his start with just 52 pitches, striking out six batters while allowing three hits and issuing one walk.

The right-hander was initially checked on by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and head athletic trainer Thomas Albert after getting back-to-back strikeouts in the fourth inning. It was a brief conversation, however, as Glasnow assured them he was fine.

Glasnow provided more reason for confidence health wasn’t an issue as he finished off the fourth inning by striking out the side. But upon throwing a 93.7 mph fastball to begin the fifth, Austin Barnes, Roberts and Albert returned to the mound for another visit.

That instance ended with Glasnow walking off the field with a noticeable limp. The Dodgers later announced he exited due to lower leg cramping.
