Recap: Dodgers Reach 110 Wins By Walking To Comeback Against Rockies

The Los Angeles Dodgers outhit the Colorado Rockies but it was an abundance of walks that led to a 6-4 comeback that extended their winning streak to four games. The Dodgers became the first National League team with 110 wins since the 1909 Pittsburgh Pirates, though the result didn’t have much impact as they have already clinched home-field advantage through the World Series.

Coming off a start in which Michael Grove completed five innings despite being under the weather, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was hopeful to push the right-hander deeper into his outing on Saturday.

“It’s not a pitch-count thing, it’s going to be performance and how he’s managing innings,” Roberts said. “I’d love to see him go deeper.”

Grove appeared primed to accomplish that as he got through three scoreless innings on 37 pitches.

Freddie Freeman’s RBI base hit with one out in the bottom of the third gave the Dodgers a 1-0 lead but it was short-lived.

Ryan McMahon’s leadoff home run in the fourth inning pulled the Rockies even, and Randal Grichuk put them up 4-1 on his three-run blast to center field.

Despite Grove allowing hard contact throughout the fourth inning, he was left in the game and wound up getting through the fifth.

Colorado remained in the lead until their bullpen collectively lost its command in the seventh inning. Trea Turner, Freeman and Trayce Thompson each drew a walk to load the bases with nobody out and result in Dinelson Lamet being removed.

Chad Smith didn’t fare any better as he walked Joey Gallo and Austin Barnes. The Dodgers’ string of consecutive walks ended at five, but on Cody Bellinger’s sacrifice fly that tied the game.

Max Muncy drew their sixth walk of the inning that again loaded the bases, though Gavin Lux and Mookie Betts couldn’t capitalize.

After singles by Turner and Freeman put runners at the corners with nobody out in the bottom of the eighth inning, Thompson’s third walk of the game again loaded the bases. Gallo’s sacrifice fly gave the Dodgers a lead and Bellinger’s RBI single added insurance.

Dodgers celebrate Jaime Jarrín

Prior to the game, Dodgers Spanish-language broadcaster Jaime Jarrín was recognized and celebrated for his 64th and final season.

Mayor Eric Garcetti presented Jarrín with a key to the city and declared Oct. 1 as Jaime Jarrín Day in Los Angeles. The Dodgers also renamed the booth to the “Jaime Jarrín Spanish broadcast booth.”
