Recap: Dodgers End Road Trip With Series Win Against Giants

The Los Angeles Dodgers continued their recent trend of improved at-bat quality and delivered in key situations to get a 10-2 win over the San Francisco Giants in the rubber match at Oracle Park.

Tyler Glasnow struggled to locate pitches throughout his start but managed to complete 6.2 innings while holding the Giants to only one run. That was despite Glasnow issuing four walks and also hitting a batter in the first three innings.

San Francisco otherwise managed just three hits against Glasnow. He nearly completed seven full innings but was removed after his 108th pitch of the game was hit for a two-out double. Edgardo Henriquez stranded both inherited runners.

The Dodgers took an initial lead on Kiké Hernández’s sacrifice fly in the second inning, and Tommy Edman’s RBI groundout put them back in front in the third.

Freddie Freeman extended their lead with an RBI double in the fifth inning and Michael Conforto contributed with a pinch-hit single that drove in two runs with the bases loaded. Apparent PitchCom issues that caused a disengagement violation brought in the Dodgers’ fourth run of the inning.

Miguel Rojas capitalized on a situational at-bat by delivering a two-run single with two outs and the bases loaded in the sixth inning. Conforto added an RBI base hit in the eighth inning, and Edman brought in a run in the ninth to put the Dodgers into double digits for a second consecutive game.

Hernández led the Dodgers with four hits, and Mookie Betts, Freeman and Conforto each finished with three. It was a second consecutive game for Hernández with at least three hits.

Prior to Sunday, the last time the Dodgers had four players with three hits in one game was April 24, 2024, when Shohei Ohtani, Betts, Andy Pages and Will Smith combined for the feat.

Ohtani went 1-for-6 with two strikeouts in the series finale and was hitless before a single in the ninth inning. Pages did not play and Smith is on the injured list due to a right hand contusion.

Dodgers’ magic number

With their win, the Dodgers’ magic number to clinch the National League West is now 10. It’s going to remain there entering play on Monday as the San Diego Padres defeated the Colorado Rockies on Sunday.

The Dodgers remain 2.5 games ahead of the Padres for first place in the NL West and are 4.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies for the No. 2 seed heading into their matchup this week.
