Recap: Dodgers Allow 5 Home Runs In Loss To Nationals

The Los Angeles Dodgers continued to have a difficult time against the Washington Nationals this season with their latest defeat a 7-3 loss at Dodger Stadium. The Nationals are now 3-2 against the Dodgers and can clinch the season series on Sunday.

Dustin May retired the first six batters faced and completed three scoreless innings before getting ambushed. James Wood led off the fourth with a 451-foot home run to center field that carried halfway up the pavilion. Wood’s blast is the longest home run hit at Dodger Stadium this season.

Luis García Jr. followed that with a solo homer of his own to center as well that extended the Nationals’ lead to 2-0.

Washington appeared primed to create more separation in the fifth inning when they had two runners in scoring position. But May struck out CJ Abrams looking, and got García swinging after intentionally walking Wood to load the bases.

May leapt off the mound and let out multiple screams as he skipped toward the dugout, seemingly sensing the chance for a potential shift in momentum.

Andy Pages threw his support behind that by leading off the bottom of the fifth with a home run that cut the Dodgers’ deficit in half. Pages to that point was batting .352/.355/.690 with six home runs and 16 RBI during the month of June.

The Dodgers had two more reach in the inning but they were stranded by Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman.

Scoring continued in the sixth inning when Nathaniel Lowe’s line drive skipped off the top of the wall in left field and carried into the pavilion for a leadoff home run.

Will Smith added onto the back-and-forth affair by leading off the bottom half of the sixth with a home run to center field that went off Jacob Young’s glove on his attempt at a spectacular catch.

That proved all for naught as CJ Abrams hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning and Lowe connected on his second long ball of the night in the eighth.

Keibert Ruiz did not have any of the Nationals’ home runs, but the former Dodgers prospect had a game-best three hits.

Teoscar Hernández joined in on the power surge with a leadoff homer in the ninth inning.

The five home runs surrendered marked a season-high-tying for Dodgers pitchers. They previously did so to the Arizona Diamondbacks on the road (May 9) and at home against the Athletics (May 13).

The eight combined home runs marked a season-high for a Dodgers game.

Albeit with a season-high three homers, May provided the Dodgers with a quality start by pitching three innings and allowing three runs. He’s completed at least five innings in all 14 starts this season, and logged a minimum of six in half of his outings.

Among Dodgers starters, only Yoshinobu Yamamoto has made more starts this season of at least six innings, with nine.

Dodgers City Connect record

Saturday’s game marked the first loss when the Dodgers wear their City Connect uniform this season. They entered the night 3-0 when wearing the Dodgers City Connect uniform in 2025, with wins over the Pittsburgh Pirates (April 26), New York Yankees (May 31) and San Francisco Giants (June 14).
