Recap: Dodgers Offense Still Missing In Loss To Rangers

The Los Angeles Dodgers had another poor offensive showing, dropping their game 3-1 against the Texas Rangers, resulting in a series loss.

Overall, the Dodgers had just five hits, with Andy Pages accounting for two of them. One of his hits was his seventh homer of the year, which came in the seventh inning to put the Dodgers on the board with their only run.

The Dodgers were unable to get anyone into scoring position until the eighth inning. Cavan Biggio was hit by a pitch and Austin Barnes followed with a single, putting the tying runs on with no outs for the top of the lineup and providing some hope.

Mookie Betts struck out on three pitches. Shohei Ohtani struck out on three pitches. Freddie Freeman struck out on five pitches. The inning was over with no runs scoring.

The Dodgers got another runner into scoring position in the ninth, but were unable to score him.

Michael Lorenzen turned in a gem for the Rangers, throwing seven innings of one-run ball, but he only struck out two with one walk. He benefited from some luck, but the Dodgers did not make much quality contact overall.

Michael Grove made the start for the Dodgers as their opener in a bullpen game. Grove struggled in his lone inning, allowing two runs on three hits with no walks and no strikeouts.

Grove was hurt by a bloop hit that drove in the second run of the game, and he only gave up one hard-hit ball, which was a one-out single.

Ryan Yarbrough pitched three innings while allowing one run on two hits. The hope was he would pitch more, but he struggled with his command, walking four hitters and working his pitch count up.

Following Yarbrough, Yohan Ramírez worked two scoreless, while Blake Treinen, Alex Vesia and Evan Phillips all tossed a clean inning.

Dodgers make trade during game

The Dodgers acquired Jose Hernandez from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for cash considerations. Ryan Brasier was transferred to the 60-day injured list in order to make room on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster.

Hernandez is the second player to join the Dodgers in as many days. On Wednesday they acquired Cavan Biggio from the Toronto Blue Jays.

Hernandez began the 2024 season with the Pirates but frequently was optioned and recalled. He appeared in just seven games prior to the trade, going 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA and 1.69 WHIP before being designated for assignment.
