Recap: Dodgers’ 9-Game Winning Streak Snapped By Mets

The Los Angeles Dodgers had a bit of a sleepy effort on Sunday afternoon and saw their season-high-tying nine-game winning streak snapped in a 7-2 loss to the New York Mets. A victory would have given the Dodgers their first season sweep of the Mets since 2017.

Price began his start with a leadoff walk that came around to score on Javier Baez’s one-out double. J.D. Davis followed that with an RBI single into right field and the Mets scored a third run in the inning when Jonathan Villar drove him in on a blooper.

Price did settle in from there, however, retiring 10 of the final 11 batters faced. Despite finding a rhythm, circumstances dictated that he was pinch-hit for in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Dodgers had just scored a pair of runs on Cody Bellinger’s single with the bases loaded and two outs. With the tying run 90 feet away, Billy McKinney pinch-hit for Price, only to have the bat taken out of his hands.

Bellinger broke for second base but pulled up short rather than attempt to complete the steal. Pollock never got off third base and Bellinger was caught in a rundown to end the inning.

The Dodgers’ bullpen initially did its part to keep the game at 3-2, specifically Brusdar Graterol turning in two innings of work. He ran into trouble in the sixth when a hit batter and double put two on with nobody out.

After a strikeout, Graterol was aided by Corey Seager fielding a grounder and alertly throwing home to prevent a run from scoring. Patrick Mazeika was intentionally walked to load the bases and the Mets allowed Marcus Stroman to bat for himself and came away empty.

Stroman wound up pitching one more inning after the at-bat, and finished his day at two runs allowed over six.

Phil Bickford retired the first two batters faced in the seventh inning before Baez legged out a hustle double that was followed by Davis lining a two-run homer just over the fence in left field.

The Mets scored two more runs in the ninth and that was more than enough to put the game away as the Dodgers failed to mount any sort of comeback.

What’s next for Dodgers

Following an off day, the Dodgers begin a series with the San Diego Padres. They expect to welcome back Julio Urias, Joe Kelly and Mookie Betts at various points of the three-game set at Petco Park.
