Recap: Dodgers Hit 4 Home Runs In Comeback Win Over Giants

Tyler Glasnow had a first inning to forget but the Los Angeles Dodgers erased a four-run deficit en route to a 7-5 comeback win against the San Francisco Giants. That clinched a series victory for the Dodgers and has them in position to complete a four-game series sweep on Sunday.

After Glasnow allowed two singles and a walk that loaded the bases, Bryce Eldridge hit a fly ball to left field that Michael Conforto took a poor route on and it eliminated any chance at making the catch. The result was a bases-clearing double.

The Giants proceeded to load the bases for a second time in the first inning and extended their lead to 4-0 when Glasnow walked Drew Gilbert.

Glasnow largely settled in from there as he kept the Giants off the board while getting through five innings.

Max Muncy’s two-run homer in the bottom of the first started the Dodgers’ comeback, which continued in the fourth inning when Michael Conforto connected on a solo shot and Freddie Freeman’s RBI single tied the game.

Tommy Edman, who popped up to strand the bases loaded in the third inning, hit an opposite-field home run that went off the foul pole in left field in the fifth. Shohei Ohtani hit a solo home run in the sixth inning and Teoscar Hernández contributed with an RBI single.

Ohtani’s home run was his 53rd of the season to pull even with Kyle Schwarber for the National League lead amid their MVP race. That additionally was Ohtani’s 29th home run at Dodger Stadium this season, setting a new Dodgers record by surpassing last year’s total of 28.

Overall, Ohtani is one homer away from tying his career high that was set last season, which also was a new Dodgers franchise record.

As manager Dave Roberts continues to evaluate postseason roles in the Dodgers’ bullpen, Kirby Yates surrendered a solo home run and retired just one of four batters faced in the seventh inning. Yates also committed a throwing error on a pickoff attempt, and his lone out came courtesy an acrobatic catch by Mookie Betts in foul territory.

Justin Wrobleski stranded both inherited runners in his first time pitching on back-to-back days. Will Klein, who has replaced an injured Michael Kopech, struck out the side in the eighth inning. Jack Dreyer then converted the save opportunity.

Dodgers’ magic number

The Dodgers’ win lowered their magic number for the NL West title to three. The earliest they can clinch the division is Monday, though that is an off day.
