Recap: Dodgers Get First Road Win Of Season Series Against Giants

The Los Angeles Dodgers again got to Logan Webb and erased an early deficit to come away with an 8-2 win against the San Francisco Giants. It represented the first time in their 10 head-to-head meetings this season that the road team won.

Webb allowed just five runs (four earned) over 16 innings pitched across three starts against the Dodgers last season, but matched that total en route to taking the loss in the series opener at Oracle Park.

Max Muncy was first to strike against Webb, driving a go-ahead, two-run home run to center field in the second inning. Webb then ran into more trouble in the third, beginning with James Outman’s leadoff single.

That was followed by a double from Mookie Betts and a Trea Turner sacrifice fly. Freddie Freeman kept the scoring going with an RBI single and Will Smith brought him in with a double. Freeman and Smith later combined for a run on back-to-back doubles in the fifth inning.

L.A. remained comfortably ahead from there, and Trea Turner provided more separation with a leadoff home run in the seventh inning that also extended his hitting streak to 19 games. Freeman added an RBI single in the ninth, reaching three hits in back-to-back games.

Andrew Heaney’s second start off the 15-day injured list was shaky to begin, as he needed 27 pitches to get through the first inning. To Heaney’s credit, he limited the Giants to just one run and settled in to get through four innings.

Heaney collected seven strikeouts but exited due to being on a pitch count to finish out the season.

Chris Martin makes Dodgers debut

Chris Martin was the first relief pitcher to enter after Heaney, and worked one inning in his Dodgers debut. Martin surrendered a solo home run, which lent more credence to his struggles with fly balls carrying this season.

However, Martin otherwise had an encouraging first appearance.
