Recap: Dodgers Hit 3 Home Runs, Have 3 Ejections In Loss To Mariners

The Los Angeles Dodgers hit three home runs but were let down by their pitching in a 6-4 loss to the Seattle Mariners, snapping a season-best winning streak at seven games.

Julio Urias struck out half of the batters he faced, however the issue with that was he only pitched 1.2 innings. Urias picked up three strikeouts in the first inning but also allowed a one-out single, walked a batter and gave up an RBI base hit to Austin Nola that gave Seattle an early lead.

Tim Lopes doubled to lead off the second inning and Sam Haggerty followed with a base hit. Urias collected back-to-back strikeouts but was removed at 52 pitches. Dennis Santana got the Dodgers out of the jam but surrendered a go-ahead three-run home run to Nola before recording an out in the third.

Dylan Floro inherited a bases-loaded jam and held the Mariners to just one run. Dylan Moore’s solo home run off Pedro Baez in the sixth inning created more separation.

By then the Dodgers had already gone quiet. Max Muncy and Joc Pederson connected on back-to-back home runs off Taijuan Walker in the second, and Cody Bellinger added one of his own the next inning. It marked the first time this season Muncy, Pederson and Bellinger each hit a home run in the same game this season.

Muncy then was ejected by home-plate umpire Mark Ripperger, along with Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and hitting roach Robert Van Scoyoc, for arguing balls and strikes. Muncy had previously taken exception with a strike call in the third inning.

L.A. began to mount a somewhat of a rally in the eighth when Mookie Betts pulled a leadoff double inside third base. He scored on Justin Turner’s single, which extended his hitting streak to 13 games.

AJ Pollock reached on an infield single to start the ninth, Chris Taylor walked with one out and Betts worked a walk to load the bases with two outs. Taylor Williams avoided a complete meltdown by retiring Corey Seager to convert the save.

Victor Gonzalez makes immediate contribution

Prior to Wednesday’s game the Dodgers optioned Tony Gonsolin and recalled Victor Gonzalez from their alternate training site. “To get Victor here, I think he matches up well with these guys,” Roberts said. “It’s a good opportunity for Victor as well.”

Gonzalez issued a walk and had a strikeout over two scoreless innings.
