The Los Angeles Dodgers came out of the All-Star break firing on all cylinders but hit the skids and suffered a 6-5 walk-off loss to the San Diego Padres in 10 innings.

The Dodgers got to Padres starter Matt Waldron early, scoring five runs in the first inning, but struggled from there for the rest of the game.

Shohei Ohtani started them off with a walk, and after he stole second base, Will Smith singled to put runners at the corners. Gavin Lux followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.

Then, the Dodgers put together a two-out rally. Jason Heyward doubled and Andy Pages singled to drive in two more runs. Cavan Biggio capped off the inning with a two-run homer to put the Dodgers up 5-0.

The Padres started to battle back, beginning in the second inning when Manny Machado homered. A pair of doubles with a single sandwiched between in the third inning gave the Padres two more runs, making it a 5-3 game.

But from there, Glasnow settled in with four consecutive scoreless innings. He ended up going seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits with eight strikeouts and one walk.

Austin Barnes had a chance to break the game open for the Dodgers in the seventh inning when he pinch-hit for Heyward with the bases loaded, but he grounded out to end the threat.

That also brought an end to his career-best 12-game hitting streak.

Anthony Banda pitched a scoreless eighth inning, and Blake Treinen was called upon to close the game. However, he allowed a pair of homers to Machado and Jackson Merrill that tied the game.

Alex Vesia entered in the 10th inning but couldn’t extend the game as he gave up a pinch-hit, walk-off single to Donovan Solano with the bases loaded.

Dodgers make multiple roster moves

Prior to the game, the Dodgers were busy upgrading their roster with the MLB trade deadline set for 3 p.m. PT earlier in the day.

Over the past two days, the Dodgers made three trades and ended up activating two players ahead of their series opener against the Padres. Michael Kopech and Amed Rosario were both activated, replacing Miguel Vargas and Ryan Yarbrough.

In addition, they pulled off one of the blockbuster deals in baseball, acquiring Jack Flaherty from the Detroit Tigers for two prospects. The Dodgers also sent Yarbrough to the Blue Jays for Kevin Kiermaier.

Tommy Edman joined the Dodgers in San Diego as well, but he remains on the 60-day injured list.
