Recap: Corey Seager Powers Rangers Past Walker Buehler & Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers had their series against the Texas Rangers evened up thanks to the bat of Corey Seager and a poor offensive showing, leading to a 3-2 loss.

It was the Dodgers that jumped out to a lead first when Shohei Ohtani launched his 17th home run of the season. Ohtani has now homered in consecutive games.

The Dodgers scored again in the ninth inning when Jason Heyward roped a double into the right-center field gap, but they had the tying run thrown out on a play at the plate. Andy Pages seemingly ran through a stop sign from third-base coach Dino Ebel on his attempt to score from first base.

Walker Buehler was back on the mound for his seventh start of the season, and despite dealing with traffic, he was able to keep the Rangers off the board for the first four innings.

That changed when a pair of hitters reached base against him in the fifth, setting the stage for Seager. Buehler threw him a fastball, and Seager crushed it to give the Rangers a 3-0 lead.

The cheers fans at Dodger Stadium gave Seager prior to that moment quickly turned into boos as he rounded the bases. He was also booed in his next at-bat.

Buehler did not utilize his fastball often, which was a major change from how he’s been pitching this year and in previous seasons. Buehler threw his fastball just five times as it’s been his worst pitch this year, and he found poor results with it again.

The results on his fastball were a home run, single, 103 mph ground out, foul ball and strike out, giving him a .400 average against and 100% hard-hit rate on it.

Buehler primarily relied on his sinker and cutter, and found positive results with those pitches. However, the mistake of using his worst pitch in the biggest moment came back to bite him, and his team.

Cavan Biggio finds mixed results in Dodgers debut

Cavan Biggio was in the starting lineup after being acquired earlier in the day from the Toronto Blue Jays. He batted ninth and played third base for his team debut.

Biggio made one error, which came just before Seager’s three-run blast, and he also followed that up with his first hit in Dodger Blue. Overall, he went 1-for-3, also hitting a hard line-out to right field.

The Dodgers will look for better results from him moving forward as the plan is to play him at third base against right-handed pitchers.
