Recap: Bobby Miller, David Peralta Deliver For Dodgers In Shutout Win Against Diamondbacks

Bobby Miller turned in an impressive performance and David Peralta delivered a clutch hit against his former team help the Los Angeles Dodgers finish their road trip with 2-0 win that completed a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks, who have lost eight in a row.

Overall, the Dodgers went 5-1 on the road and now begin their longest homestand of the season at 10 games.

While July saw the Dodgers rotation have the highest ERA for a single month in Los Angeles franchise history, Miller provided them with a fourth consecutive game in which the starting pitcher completed six innings.

The Dodgers’ rookie stranded one baserunner in each the first and second innings, then faced a bigger threat in the fourth as the Diamondbacks put two on with one out. He wiggled out of that jam and again in the fifth inning after a leadoff walk and double left two runners in scoring position with nobody out.

Miller remained in the game to begin the seventh inning but was replaced by Caleb Ferguson after allowing a leadoff single and issuing a walk.

Ferguson stranded both inherited runners thanks in large part to Geraldo Perdomo bunting into a double play on his attempt at a sacrifice.

The scoreless outing was Miller’s first since he completed six shutout innings against the Philadelphia Phillies on June 10. That was Miller’s fourth career start and part of a scoreless innings streak that was snapped in his next outing.

Miller’s effort was matched by Merrill Kelly, who historically has struggled against the Dodgers throughout his career. Kelly allowed six hits but also got through six-plus innings without giving up a run.

Kelly’s night came to an end two pitches into the seventh inning because of a right leg cramp.

David Peralta’s clutch hit

With the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth inning, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stuck with Peralta despite the Diamondbacks having a lefty on the mound in Kyle Nelson.

Peralta rewarded Roberts’ trust by delivering what held as a game-winning two-run base hit.

The Dodgers’ rally was started by Freddie Freeman greeting Nelson with a two-out ground-rule double. Will Smith was then intentionally walked and Max Muncy worked a long plate appearance to earn a free pass as well.
