MLB Rumors: Randy Arozarena Traded To Seattle Mariners

Randy Arozarena has been a popular trade name often linked to the Los Angeles Dodgers as the Tampa Bay Rays sell pieces for the future.

The Dodgers were reportedly discussing a deal with the Rays, and the two clubs have familiarity with each other and a history of pulling off deals.

With outfield as arguably the biggest offensive need for the Dodgers to address, it made all the sense for the two sides to come together on an agreement.

However, that will not be happening. According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Rays are trading Arozarena to the Seattle Mariners for a trio of prospects:

Full trade, per ESPN sources:

Seattle Mariners receive: outfielder Randy Arozarena

Tampa Bay Rays receive: outfielder Aidan Smith, right-hander Brody Hopkins and a player to be named last.

With the Dodgers interested in Arozarena, and him being dealt so early, it’s likely the Mariners had to overpay to acquire him and beat any other offers at this stage. The Rays also have specific types of players they target and may have simply just valued the prospects they received very highly.

Arozarena remains under team control for two more seasons before potentially becoming a free agent after the 2026 campaign.

Playing a corner outfield spot, the 29-year-old has been back in form since June 1 after a slow start to his season, showing more of what has made him one of the premiere right-handed bats in baseball.

The Rays’ outfielder was an interesting piece for many reasons, especially for his energy and postseason pedigree.

However, the Dodgers will need to look elsewhere to improve their offense.

Remaining options for Dodgers after Randy Arozarena trade

Luis Robert Jr. of the Chicago White Sox remains the best option left on the board, and his fit for the Dodgers is amplified due to his ability to play center field. The Dodgers have been in discussions with the White Sox, and could even expand the deal to include Garrett Crochet, but that would be incredibly pricey.

Cody Bellinger could also be a possibility with the Dodgers in need of a center fielder, but the center field options are slim. They may need to stick with Andy Pages in center field and upgrade a corner spot if they are unable to land Robert.

The Dodgers are also said to be focused on a starting pitcher acquisition.
