Preview: Rich Hill Faces Padres In Second Act With Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers look to rebound after managing to score just two runs on 13 hits in Friday’s loss to the San Diego Padres. The Dodgers’ defeat spoiled the return of Yasiel Puig, who went 2-for-4 with two singles.

Puig is not in Saturday’s lineup against right-hander Luis Perdomo. It instead is Josh Reddick, who is hopeful his first RBI with the Dodgers on Wednesday will lead to more success after weeks of coming up empty.

Perdomo enters 7-7 with a 5.84 ERA, 4.62 FIP and 1.70 WHIP in 30 games (15 starts) this season. The rookie right-hander converted to starting on a full time basis in June.

Perdomo as a starter is 6-6 with a 4.71 ERA and 1.51 WHIP. Perdomo is coming off a complete-game victory against the Miami Marlins in which he allowed just one run on six hits.

Command may be something to watch with Perdomo as he’s walked at least three batters in four of his five August starts.

The 23-year-old made his Major League debut against the Dodgers on April 4, allowing six runs on six hits over an inning of relief. He allowed a pair of runs in one inning during a relief appearance two days later.

A third relief appearance came with more struggles for Perdomo, as the Dodgers pushed across four runs on eight hits. He also walked six in five innings. Perdomo gave up four runs (two earned) in five innings during a start against the Dodgers on May 22.

Howie Kendrick enters Saturday’s contest 4-for-6 against Perdomo, with three doubles and two RBIs. Adrian Gonzalez is 3-for-6 with one double, two RBIs, and three walks. Corey Seager is mired in a slump since being hit on the wrist this week, going 0-for-14 after that point.

Rich Hill takes the mound for just his second start since being acquired from the Oakland Athletics in a five-player trade on Aug. 1. Hill was scheduled to pitch Tuesday’s game against the Colorado Rockies but never took the mound as the game was rained out.

He was then tentatively slated for the second game of a doubleheader, but was scratched from the start due to the Dodgers taking precaution with Hill’s blister. The southpaw held the San Francisco Giants to five hits over six scoreless innings in his Dodgers debut.

Hill didn’t allow an extra-base hit, and added three strikeouts on an efficient 81 pitches.
