Preview: Dodgers Look To Bounce Back Against Angels, Avoid Rare Series Loss

After suffering one of their more bizarre losses of the season, the Los Angeles Dodgers look to turn the page and salvage the Freeway Series against the crosstown Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Angel Stadium.

A win on Tuesday would give the Dodgers a split in the two-game matchup. On the flip side, a loss would peg them with their first series defeat since the end of April into early May, when they dropped two out of three to the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park.

Kenta Maeda makes his 13th start of the season and looks to build off an excellent outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Tabbed with a tough-luck no-decision, the right-hander allowed only one run on two hits over five innings pitched with seven strikeouts.

Maeda enters with a 7-2 record, 3.48 ERA, 3.81 FIP and 1.07 WHIP in 67.1 innings pitched this season. He is in the midst of one of the best stretches of his career, having allowed a combined six runs over his last five starts.

During that span, Maeda has accumulated a 4-0 record, 1.88 ERA and 0.59 WHIP with 35 strikeouts against three walks in 22.2 innings pitched.

In his career against the Angels, the 31-year-old is 2-1 with a solid 2.65 ERA and 0.94 WHIP over 17 innings of work (four games, three starts). Last season when facing them, he allowed just one run in six innings pitched across two appearances.

Opening for the Angels is right-hander Cam Bedrosian, who makes his seventh start of the season. Expected to follow him in the contest is fellow righty Felix Peña, who has logged four starts this year himself.

When starting a game this season, Bedrosian has pitched to a solid 3.00 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over six innings pitched. All-in-all, he enters with a 2-3 record, 2.67 ERA, 3.37 FIP and 1.12 WHIP with 35 strikeouts against 15 walks in 30.1 innings (30 games).

In 10 career appearances against the Dodgers, Bedrosian has posted a 3.12 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 14 strikeouts compared to two walks across 8.2 innings pitched. He has dominated at home this season, compiling a 2.08 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 17.1 frames (17 games).

Kiké Hernandez is making a second consecutive start at first base, while Justin Turner is again serving as the designated hitter.
