The Los Angeles Dodgers may have won the World Series this year, but that does not mean president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman is going to get complacent and not attempt improve the roster for 2021 and beyond.

The Dodgers have already begun working on their bullpen, bringing in high-upside pitchers like Corey Knebel, Brandon Morrow and Jimmy Nelson. One need that they have yet to address but will at some point this offseason is the third base position.

With Justin Turner hitting free agency, the Dodgers may have their sights set on a making a splash as they have already been linked to Colorado Rockies star Nolan Arenado in trade talks.

It’s no secret Arenado wants out of Colorado and that the Dodgers have been interested in the Southern California native for years. It appears that the Rockies have no desire to trade him to their division rivals and because of that, are targeting the New York Mets, per Jon Morosi of MLB Network:

“The team I’m watching very carefully that I was told even this week is the team the Rockies want to engage with is the New York Mets. Of course, they just hired Jared Porter as the GM in the last several days. They are the team. When you think about all the options out there, the Rockies don’t really want to trade Arenado to the Dodgers. That interest has been there for the Dodgers for a long time, but that’s not what the Rockies want to do. So when you consider where the Rockies are right now, they would much rather deal Nolan Arenado out of the division.”

Under new owner Steve Cohen, the Mets have made it clear they plan to spend money to improve their team this offseason. If they want to truly make a splash, Arenado may be the biggest name currently available on the free-agent and trade markets.

He does have a full no-trade clause though, so it remains to be seen if Arenado would welcome a trade to the Mets.

Turner looking for three-year deal

Despite the Dodgers being linked to Arenado, it has been reported all offseason that the most likely scenario is them bringing back Turner to play third.

Turner reportedly is looking for a three-year deal and has received interest from other teams like the Toronto Blue Jays. Returning to L.A. is certainly no guarantee despite everything he has accomplished in a Dodger uniform.
