Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star Mookie Betts was named the 2022 Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner in right field, beating out San Diego Padres’ Juan Soto and Daulton Varsho of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

It marked the sixth time Betts has taken home the Gold Glove Award, and it’s his second since being traded by the Boston Red Sox, which puts him in rarified Dodgers franchise history.

Betts has now joined Willie Davis (1971-1973), Raul Mondesi (1995, 1997) and Matt Kemp (2009, 2011) as the only Dodgers outfielders to win multiple Gold Glove Awards.

Betts also joined Wally Moon (1960), Davis, Dusty Baker (1981), Mondesi, Steve Finley (2004), Kemp, Andre Ethier (2011) and Cody Bellinger (2019) as the only Dodgers outfielders to ever win a Gold Glove.

He led all National League right fielders in Total Zone Rating (31), and was second in Ultimate Zone Rating (12.5), Outs Above Average (5) and Defensive Runs Saved (15) this season.

The Gold Glove Award heavily favors the player’s SABR Defensive Index (SDI), a statistic in which Betts held the top spot for most of the season with 11.19.

Betts was the lone Dodgers’ winner of a Gold Glove for 2022, as Tyler Anderson fell short to Max Fried of the Atlanta Braves.

With Betts under contract through the 2032 season, he figures to break that record as he continues to annually prove himself as one of the best fielders in all of Major League Baseball.

Mookie Betts wins Fielding Bible Award

Prior to winning the Gold Glove, Betts was named as a recipient of a 2022 Fielding Bible Award, the fifth of his career, which tied with Nolan Arenado of the St. Louis Cardinals for the second-most all-time.
