MLB News: Luis Perdomo, Nolan Arenado Among Those Suspended After Padres-Rockies Brawl

Major League Baseball announced the repercussions from the brawl between the San Diego Padres and Colorado Rockies at Coors Field this past week, as Padres starter Luis Perdomo and Rockies All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado were each suspended five games.

Meanwhile, Rockies outfielder Gerardo Parra was suspended four games and Padres reliever Buddy Baumann received a one-game ban. Additionally, former Los Angeles Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis and Padres shortstop Freddy Galvis were each fined for their actions in the brawl.

The fracas started when Arenado charged the mound after Perdomo threw a pitch behind him that looked to be intentional and in response to two Padres players who were previously plunked.

There have been no announcements yet if any of the players plan to appeal their suspensions. Arenado likely will as his penalty is much harsher than Perdomo’s considering he is an everyday player, not a starting pitcher who will only miss one game under the current suspension.

The Dodgers do not play the Rockies until May 21, so the suspensions do not impact any head-to-head series. The suspension of Perdomo does, however. Perdomo’s next start was scheduled for Friday, when the Padres host the Dodgers in the opener of a three-game series at Petco Park.

If Perdomo does not appeal his penalty, which looks to be the case, he will not be able to make that start. The Padres would likely have to call someone up from Triple-A or rely on a bullpen game.
