A big focus of the Los Angeles Dodgers every offseason is adding pitching depth, particularly in the bullpen, and one signing they made to address that before the 2020 season was bringing in Edubray Ramos on a Minor League contract with an invitation to Spring Training.

Ramos pitched in parts of four big-league seasons for the Philadelphia Phillies from 2016-19, but given the Dodgers’ quality of talent at the MLB level, he was always a long shot to make the Opening Day roster.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic was especially unfortunate for a player like Ramos as with the season being shortened to 60 games, depth wasn’t much of a factor and he wasn’t needed to eat innings.

Additionally, there wasn’t a Minor League season, so Ramos also did not get a chance to impress the Dodgers’ brass throughout the year. Ramos became a free agent this offseason and has landed on his feet with the Texas Rangers, per Levi Weaver of The Athletic:

Ramos, 27, was with LAD org last year, last pitched in MLB with PHI in 2019.

Ramos had a solid season for the Phillies in 2018, pitching to a 2.32 ERA, 3.54 FIP and 1.15 WHIP with 42 strikeouts and 15 walks in 42.2 innings across 52 games.

He spent most of the 2019 season in the Minor Leagues and struggled in his short time at the big league level. In 20 games for the Phillies, Ramos posted a 5.40 ERA, 7.68 FIP and 1.73 WHIP with 11 strikeouts and seven walks in 15 innings.

Considering the Rangers are in a rebuilding phase, it is very possible that the 27-year-old will get a look at the Major League level at some point in 2021.

Dodgers sign five players to Minor League contracts

As far as the Dodgers go, their desire for pitching depth remains, and they recently announced they have signed five players to Minor League contracts, including familiar faces Brandon Morrow, Jimmy Nelson and Brock Stewart.

Morrow and Nelson both present high upside if they can get healthy, although that has been an issue for them in recent years.
