Miguel Rojas: Dodgers ‘Playing Really Good Baseball’ At ‘Right Time’

As the Los Angeles Dodgers scuffled by losing five consecutive games to begin the month of September, Miguel Rojas was critical of the team’s poor play.

The veteran infielder essentially said the Dodgers were playing selfish baseball and called on the team to go back to having fun during games.

The Dodgers responded by winning six of their next seven games, and overall, looked more like themselves in recent weeks despite some occasional struggles.

“We’ve been playing really good baseball here in the last couple of weeks,” Rojas said during the final days of the season.

“I feel like sometimes when these long seasons come to a point where a lot of people are trying to find their own ways to figure themselves out, and we were worrying too much about the personal, the personal stats and the personal at-bats and all that.

“I feel like right now, we’re playing way better baseball, and I think the team is starting to play up a little bit better, and it happened at the right time, because we’ll be playing in October here really soon, and we’re looking forward to continue to do that.”

As Rojas noted, the Dodgers seemed to have turned a corner at an opportune time. Rojas hopes the team’s improved play will put them in a good mindset as they start in the Wild Card Series.

“I mean, winning always gives you confidence,” Rojas began. “Whenever you go out there and win a baseball game, you’re going to have confidence, and it’s going to be better, because everybody’s going to be enjoying the moment.

“Regardless of how it looks, we don’t care how it looks. At this point, it’s not about the process, it’s about the results. That’s what we’re chasing, and that’s what we’re hunting.

“We’re hunting the results, and it’s been happening lately for us. So we’re happy and motivated that this is going to keep going for October.”

Dodgers vote Miguel Rojas winner of Roy Campanella Award

Rojas was named the winner of the 20th annual Roy Campanella Award, which is annually given to the Dodgers player who best exemplifies the spirit and leadership of the late Hall of Fame catcher.

Rojas also received the honor last season and is the fourth player to win multiple times, joining Clayton Kershaw (2013-2014), Justin Turner (2017, 2019-2020) and Chase Utley (2016, 2018).
