The Los Angeles Dodgers’ losing streak reached a season-worst five games on Tuesday night after falling 3-1 to the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field.
The Dodgers had no answer for rookie standout Jacob Misiorowski, who collected a career-high 12 strikeouts in six innings of one-run ball. He effectively shut down the L.A. offense after allowing a leadoff home run to Shohei Ohtani.
The Dodgers have been outscored, 41-8, since the start of their losing streak, mustering only one run in four of the five games. They have additionally hit just .199 as a team during the stretch.
Manager Dave Roberts knows the Dodgers have been sputtering offensively, but believes any club would struggle against a pitcher on top of his game, via Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:
“It never feels good when you lose five in a row. But today, I think, it was one of those days where the guy’s stuff – it didn’t matter who was out there. He was really good tonight,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.
The Dodgers’ recent woes come at a time in which several key players have either slumped or are unavailable due to injury. Miguel Rojas said the team has to find a way to finish strong before the All-Star break:
“I feel like this is a point in the year where we’re kind of like trying to get to the break,” infielder Miguel Rojas said. “We played really good for a long time then we ran into two really good pitching teams that got really big arms in the bullpen. We’ve got a combination of having a couple guys down … plus a couple guys struggling. You don’t have to look too much to see that’s the reason we’re not really producing right now.
“It comes down to battling through this stretch, trying to find ways to win games these last four. But definitely, you know a team can have a stretch like this after being so good for a long time.”
Even with their current skid, the Dodgers still own the best record in the National League at 56-37 and have some reason to be optimistic as Tyler Glasnow is expected to make his return start against the Brewers on Wednesday.
The Dodgers will look to get back on track before beginning an important three-game series with the San Francisco Giants to end the unofficial first half of the season.
Dave Roberts: Dodgers ‘have to play better’
Roberts acknowledged the challenges facing the Dodgers but doesn’t want to make any excuses and said they simply have to play better.
