Michael Conforto signed a one-year, $17 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, becoming the latest player to be on switch sides in the storied rivalry with the San Francisco Giants.

Dodgers and Giants history can be traced all the way back to 1890 season. That was the year the Brooklyn Dodgers joined the National League, beginning a rivalry with the New York Giants that spanned 134 years and counting.

In all that time, there have only been three players to hit at least 20 home runs in a season for both the Dodgers and Giants, according to Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

Michael Conforto hit 20 HR last season for the Giants

3 players have had at least 1 20-HR season for both the Giants and Dodgers:

Joc Pederson
Marquis Grissom
Jeff Kent https://t.co/WSXeb4ZjbN

Joc Pederson had four 20-homer seasons during his time with the Dodgers from 2014-2020 and hit 23 with the Giants in 2022.

Marquis Grissom hit 38 home runs over two seasons with the Dodgers, including 21 during the 2001 season. He finished his career with the Giants from 2003-2005, with back-to-back 20-homer seasons in the first two years.

Jeff Kent spent six seasons with the Giants, starting in 1997, and had 20 or more home runs in each of those years. Kent played the last four seasons of his career with the Dodgers, beginning in 2005, and had at least 20 homers in two of them.

Kent had nine consecutive 20-homer seasons, a streak that started in 1997. He spent six years with the Giants, two with the Houston Astros and one with the Dodgers.

Conforto could add his name to this list in 2025 after rediscovering his power stroke with the Giants last season. Conforto’s .450 slugging percentage was the highest its been in three seasons and his .470 expected slugging percentage was in the 89th percentile in MLB.

Michael Conforto’s contract includes deferred salary

The Dodgers paid over the market price for Conforto, but they offset some of the cost with the structure of his contract. His contract with the Dodgers includes an $8.5 million signing bonus that is partly deferred.
