The New York Mets have had a rough year in terms of injuries, as in the first month of the season they lost ace Noah Syndergaard, closer Jeurys Familia and perhaps their best hitter Yoenis Cespedes for extended periods of time due to injuries.

They were recently on a four-game winning streak and won five of six games, but have again hit the skids and received more bad news. Within the past week, Asdrubal Cabrera, Matt Harvey, Juan Lagares and Neil Walker have all been put on the disabled list.

Cabrera was first to go down, due to a sprained left thumb. He landed on the disabled list one day after hitting two home runs in a win over the Chicago Cubs.

Harvey, who is dealing with a stress injury to the scapula bone his right shoulder, was roughed up for four hits and four runs in four innings against the Cubs last Wednesday prior to the injury.

He has struggled throughout the 2017 season, going 4-3 with a 5.25 ERA, 6.17 FIP and 1.45 WHIP in 13 starts. This is Harvey’s first DL stint of the season, though he missed some time earlier in the year due to a team suspension.

Largaes suffered a fractured joint in his left thumb and remained in the game for a brief period of time. He tore a ligament in the same thumb last season.

Walker is dealing with a partially torn hamstring, which should keep him out of action at least until the All-Star break. Walker has been one of the Mets’ hottest hitters in recent weeks, as he was batting .323/.429/.615 with five home runs and nine RBIs in his last 19 games.

Overall on the season Walker is hitting .270/.352/.468 with nine home runs and 33 RBIs in 60 games. He is set to become a free agent at the end of this season.

So the banged-up Mets head into a four-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers that begins Monday. The Dodgers are looking to keep pace with the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks, who are five- and seven-game winning streaks, respectively.

Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s games will be nationally televised on ESPN.
