The Los Angeles Dodgers fell short of sweeping the Texas Rangers on Sunday, but it wasn’t without Max Muncy tying a franchise record with his third grand slam of the season.

The 32-year-old joined Kal Daniels (1990), Mike Piazza (1998), Adrián Beltré (2004), Matt Kemp (2009) and Chris Taylor (2017) as the only Dodgers players to accomplish the feat.

Taylor has two grand slams this year and could become the lone player of the group to hit three in multiple seasons. The Dodgers as a team lead the Majors with 10 grand slams this season.

The 2004 Dodgers hit 10 grand slams as well, and the franchise record belongs to the 2021 club that slugged 11 in one season.

Muncy gave the Dodgers an early 4-0 lead over the Rangers in the first inning with his third grand slam of the season. The blast came after Martín Pérez allowed three of the first four batters to reach base.

Muncy’s bases-clearing home run had an exit velocity of 103.3 mph and traveled an estimated 392 feet into the right-field stands. It was Muncy’s 24th overall homer of the season.

Muncy’s second grand slam and 12th home run of the 2023 campaign was arguably his most dramatic as it came in walk-off fashion against the Philadelphia Phillies. With the score tied at six apiece in the bottom of the ninth, Craig Kimbrel looked to send the game to extra innings against his former team.

The right-hander allowed three of the first four Dodgers to reach base, which set the stage for Muncy’s heroics. He hooked a ball inside the right-field foul pole that had an exit velocity of 107.2 mph and traveled 353 feet to give L.A. a 10-6 win.

The Dodgers’ first meeting against the San Francisco Giants in 2023 was a laugher as they came away with a 9-1 win at Oracle Park. Muncy had a historic performance at the plate as he went 3-for-3 with two home runs, seven RBI and a walk.

Muncy’s first big fly — a three-run shot off Logan Webb in the third inning — gave the Dodgers a 4-0 advantage. He capped off his night with an opposite-field grand slam off Sean Hjelle in the top of the seventh that extended L.A.’s lead to 9-1.

Muncy’s second long ball had an exit velocity of 102.9 mph and traveled 380 feet into the left-field bleachers.
