Max Muncy Interested In Signing Contract Extension With Dodgers

Max Muncy has been an important part of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ success over the last decade since originally joining the team on a Minor League contract in April 2017.

Muncy’s excellent play has led to multiple contract extensions, including in 2023 when he signed a two-year deal that included a club option for 2026.

The Dodgers recently picked up the $10 million option that ensures Muncy will play a ninth season with the organization. That had long been viewed as the most likely outcome, though it was also plausible the sides would come to terms on a new contract extension.

During an appearance on the “Foul Territory” show, Muncy said he would still be open to signing a contract extension with the Dodgers if the opportunity presents itself:

“I’m sure they’re looking at pieces out there and who they might try to go after, and all that stuff. Once that’s done, maybe we’ll have a discussion, maybe we won’t. I honestly don’t know. I would love to, clearly, but we just have to see how things unfold.”

Even with some of his offensive struggles and time missed due to oblique injuries over the past two years, Muncy remains a productive player going into his age-36 season.

The three-time World Series champion hit .243/.376/.470 with 10 doubles, two triples, 19 home runs and 67 RBI in 388 plate appearances across 100 games this year.

Muncy added three more home runs in the postseason that brought his career total to 16, which broke a Dodgers record that was previously shared by Corey Seager and Justin Turner.

Potential Max Muncy contract extension

Given his age and recent injury history, the Dodgers would presumably be interested in a one- or two-year contract extension with Muncy.

His past contract extensions have been team-friendly, and that can be attributed to Muncy’s comfort level within the organization and thankfulness to the club for affording him an opportunity when he was almost out of baseball entirely.
