Max Muncy ‘Extremely Proud’ Of Dodgers’ Accomplishments During 2021 Season

Several players have taken to thanking fans and reflecting fondly on the past season in the time since the Los Angeles Dodgers were eliminated by the Atlanta Braves in the National League Championship Series, and Max Muncy became the latest the join the group.

Muncy not only thanked fans for their endless support throughout the year, he praised the Dodgers for their accomplishments and expressed how difficult it was for him to miss the postseason because of a left elbow injury.

The Dodgers continued to hold out hope Muncy would return at some point in October, but his elbow — which among other damage was dislocated — didn’t heal at a necessary rate to allow for that. It was unclear if the left-handed slugger would have been active had the Dodgers advanced to the World Series.

Muncy’s elbow trouble was added to a long list of injuries the Dodgers dealt with throughout the season, which included losing Clayton Kershaw for the rest of the year just two days prior.

Muncy set a career high with 36 home runs this year, just edging the 35 he hit in both 2018 and 2019. Along with homers, Muncy led the Dodgers with 94 RBI (second-highest of career) and 83 walks. Overall, he batted .249/.368/.527.

Muncy shut out from awards

The Dodgers’ first baseman was nominated for a Gold Glove Award and Silver Slugger, but didn’t win either. He is a candidate for 2021 All-MLB honors and received votes for National League MVP to finish 10th overall with 38 points on the final ballot.

Muncy previously placed placed 15th in NL MVP voting for the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
