Mark Walter: Dodgers Have To Win World Series ‘Every Year’

The Los Angeles Dodgers are in the midst of an unprecedented stretch that includes six consecutive National League West division titles, three straight trips to the NL Championship Series and one World Series appearance.

While none of those accomplishments should be taken for granted, one can make a case that the Dodgers’ latest NL West crown is perhaps most gratifying. The club battled back from a nine-game deficit in May to force a Game 163 tiebreaker with the Colorado Rockies.

The Dodgers have since eliminated the Atlanta Braves in the NL Division Series and now find themselves a mere three wins away from a trip to the Fall Classic for a second consecutive season, despite all the adversity and injuries faced this season.

Dodgers chairman and owner Mark Walter is appreciative of all the team has accomplished and hopes multiple World Series championships are in the organization’s future, per Bill Plaschke of the L.A. Times:

“It’s so hard, these guys worked hard all year, they fought, we put ourselves in a hole, we came all the way back, but this is just the first step,” said Dodgers chairman Mark Walter. “Today we set ourselves up to keep plugging away.”

Do they have to win it this year? “We have to win it every year,” he said.

Having reset their luxury tax penalties while continuously reaping the rewards of a loaded farm system, the Dodgers are well-positioned for long-term success. For those reasons, it’s no surprise Walter is expecting the franchise to compete for championships every season.

In order to make it back to the World Series, Los Angeles will have to knock off the NL’s No. 1 seed Milwaukee Brewers in the NLCS.

Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman believes the roster is better suited for more success this October when compared to the 2017 team that fell one win short of a World Series championship, citing a more talented roster with improved depth.
