Los Angeles Dodgers Postseason Streak Is Longest Active Stretch

The Los Angeles Dodgers clinched their 10th National League West title in the last 11 seasons behind another 100-win campaign, and in doing so, extended MLB’s longest active streak to 11 consecutive postseason appearances.

The Dodgers captured the NL West every year from 2013-2020 before their streak was snapped in 2021 by the San Francisco Giants despite setting a franchise record at the time with 106 wins.

Only the Atlanta Braves (14 years; 1991-2005) and New York Yankees (13 years; 1995-2007) have had longer streaks of reaching the playoffs in MLB history.

Overall, the Dodgers are in the postseason for the 37th time in franchise history and the 28th time since relocating to Los Angeles. Prior to their current stretch, the team had not reached the playoffs more than two years in a row.

The Dodgers’ 11 consecutive postseason appearances is also the longest active streak of all four major professional sports leagues, ahead of the Boston Celtics (eight seasons) and Houston Astros (seven).

The Dodgers began postseason play this year with an NL Division Series matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks. It’s a fourth consecutive season in which they faced an NL West opponent in the NLDS.

Freddie Freeman: Dodgers winning NL West was important ‘goal’

Freddie Freeman, who just completed his second season with the Dodgers, previously discussed the importance of winning the division every year.

“If you don’t have a goal to win the division every year, that should be your first goal,” he said earlier this year. “You want to win the division. I mean, as long as you get in the playoffs that’s one thing, but I would rather win the division and have the best record so you don’t have to play the Wild Card scenario.

“Do I think anything is different? No. I want to win 111 games and the division this year.

“I wouldn’t change anything. I just wish we played a little better in the NLDS. I want to win 111 games and win the division again, and then ultimately win the World Series. Just win the World Series, however you do it, but the goal is to win the division.”
