Los Angeles Dodgers Contract Option Decisions For 2024 Season

The Los Angeles Dodgers entered the offseason with 2024 contract option decisions to make on Daniel Hudson, Joe Kelly, Lance Lynn, Max Muncy, Alex Reyes and Blake Treinen. All six players had to have their options exercised or declined by the November 6 deadline.

Of the group, the Dodgers chose to retain only two for the 2024 season: Muncy, signed a two-year contract extension through 2025, and Treinen’s 2024 club option was picked up.

L.A. declined the team options on Hudson, Kelly, Lynn and Reyes, but it is still possible for any of them to re-sign under different terms. All players who had their option declined became free agents.

Dodgers contract option decisions for 2024

Daniel Hudson: Declined

The Dodgers declined their $6.5 million club option on Hudson for the 2024 season, which didn’t include a buyout. He appeared in just three games this year before an MCL injury ended his season.

Joe Kelly: Declined

The Dodgers declined their $9.5 million club option on Kelly for the 2024 season in favor of paying him a $1 million buyout. The right-hander was effective on the mound when healthy, going 1-0 with a 1.74 ERA, 1.32 FIP, 0.87 WHIP and 16.5 strikeouts per nine in 10.1 innings over 11 games.

Lance Lynn: Declined

The Dodgers declined their $18 million club option on Lynn for the 2024 season in favor of paying him a $1 million buyout. The veteran showed some flashes of potential upon being acquired at the trade deadline, but regressed back to being one of the worst starters in Major League Baseball.

Alex Reyes: Declined

The Dodgers declined their $3 million club option on Reyes for the 2024 season in favor of paying him a $300,000 buyout. The former St. Louis Cardinals closer hasn’t pitched in two years after undergoing multiple shoulder surgeries.

Blake Treinen: Exercised

The Dodgers exercised their $1 million club option on Treinen for the 2024 season. The value of the option was conditional on how many innings pitched for the team in 2023, which ended up being zero.

Treinen attempted a late-season comeback after undergoing surgery to repair the labrum and rotator cuff in his right shoulder in November 2022, but his Minor League rehab assignment lasted all of three appearances before he was shut down for the rest of the year.

Max Muncy: Contract extension

The Dodgers held a $14 million club option on Muncy for the 2024 season before signing him to a two-year, $24 million contract extension through 2025. The deal includes a $10 million club option for the 2026 season.
