Major League Baseball, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) combined for a virtual groundbreaking video ceremony for the All-Star Dodgers Dreamfield and All-Star Teen Center at William Mead Homes in Chinatown.

MLB chief baseball development officer Tony Reagins, Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten, ADF CEO Nichol Whiteman and Los Angeles City Councilmember Gil Cedillo were among those to appear in the groundbreaking video.

The site is less than two miles from Dodger Stadium, and the projects were part of MLB awarding the 2020 All-Star Game to the Dodgers. Unfortunately, the Midsummer Classic had to be cancelled amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

MLB has since awarded the 2022 All-Star Game to the Dodgers; with next year’s exhibition scheduled to be hosted by the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park.

Despite the postponement, MLB, the Dodgers and LADF are honoring their $1.7 million commitment to four All-Star Legacy projects. The William Mead Homes development is the first of those.

Construction and renovations include a field makeover, installation of new fencing, windscreens, scoreboard, backstop signage, upgrades to the outdoor area and more.

In partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of West San Gabriel Valley and the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles, the new Dodgers Dreamfield will provide a safe and state-of-the-art place to play for over 200 Boys & Girls Club members and nearly 3,500 youth in the surrounding community.

Additional All-Star Legacy projects will see upgrades at Dodgers Dreamfield at Gilbert Lindsay Park (South Los Angeles) and Lincoln Park (Lincoln Heights), and to Veterans Courtyard (Downtown Skid Row) in effort to improve existing outdoor gathering facilities.

LADF virtual run

The Dodgers Foundation announced their annual run was shifted to a virtual experience for 6,000 participants from Nov. 8-15.

“Together, we’ll run the distance to improve education, healthcare, homelessness, and social justice for all Angelenos,” Whiteman said.

“While we would love to connect in our traditional style, LADF will not waver as we improve health and education outcomes for youth who simply need a chance. With the incredible support of our partners Biofreeze and UCLA Health, runners across the city will push themselves to healthy limits to help amplify our mission.”

The run is open to all ages, all levels and all athletic abilities. Registration information, along with all virtual race details, is available online at Dodgers.com/Run.
