Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation Suspends All Youth Events, Extends Grant Deadline

The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) suspended all youth events, hosted at Dodger Stadium and off-site, and additionally extended their deadline to apply for grants from April to May 1. Last year the LADF awarded $1.93 million in grants to 111 nonprofit organizations in core funding areas.

The Dodgers’ official foundation announced the changes to be compliant with the latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations that any events of 50 or more people be cancelled for the next eight weeks. If it is not required to be extended, that period expires May 10.

Like Major League Baseball, its teams and players, other professional sports and society as a whole, the LADF intends to take action when required.

“We will continue to closely monitor the situation,” the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation said in a statement. “Thank you for your patience as we gather information from official sources and adjust our schedules as necessary, in the best interests of our children and our community.”

In compliance with current CDC recommendations, we have suspended all youth events, both in-stadium and off-site. Additionally, we are extending the April 1st grant deadline to May 1st. Please see below for more information! pic.twitter.com/gxxAMNcgoB

The LADF previously suspended all youth events through April 10.

It was just one month ago the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation and Kershaw’s Challenge broke ground at Gonzales Park to signal the beginning of construction on its largest Dodgers Dreamfields project to date.

The multi-million dollar renovation further continue the LADF’s partnership with the City of Compton to provide safe park access to 28,000 local youth under the age of 18. The Dodgers Dreamfields at Gonzales Park, Nos. 55, 56 and 57, will honor the Jackie Robinson family and revive baseball and softball play in the area among youth.

“This is cool to get to be down here and see this” Clayton Kershaw said at the ceremony. “I’m here on behalf of Kershaw’s challenge and our incredible donors, so thank you to them. Thank y’all for being here today.

“When I look back and see the guys and girls that are going to get to play here, it’s a special thing. It’s really a special thing. Like Anthony and Nichol were talking about, baseball is not just a game. It’s an opportunity for so many people to get to do so many different things.”
