Last week several Los Angeles Dodgers players and their significant others, along with members of Major League Baseball, the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) and Baby2Baby came together to assemble basic essential kits as part of the 2022 All-Star Legacy project.

The Dodgers, LADF and MLB provided more than 175,000 basic essential items for local youth and families living in poverty. The initiative is expected to impact over 5,000 students and families at Los Angeles schools for the next year.

Since 1997, MLB and host teams have donated approximately $100 million through the All-Star Legacy initiative.

Clayton Kershaw, his wife Ellen Kershaw, along with children Cali Ann Kershaw and Charley Kershaw; Max Muncy and wife Kellie Muncy; David Price and spouse Lisa Price; Will Smith and wife Cara Smith; Chris Taylor and fiancée Mary Keller; SportsNet LA reporter Kirsten Watson; LADF chief executive officer Nichol Whiteman; and actress Jordana Brewster were among those on hand at the Baby2Baby headquarters.

Volunteers assembled care kits for low-income families that were filled with diapers, blankets, and everything they need to keep their new babies safe and warm. The also sorted clothing to be distributed to children living in poverty, and stuffed backpacks with school supplies for vulnerable students to prepare for the new school year.

All-Star Legacy focus

Through the All-Star Legacy initiative, LADF, the Dodgers and MLB are working to address root causes of homelessness by supporting an ongoing program to provide 4 million meals and thousands of basic essential items.

The program utilizes the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank’s Backpack Program, which alleviates hunger for children who rely on school meals. Funds will be used to purchase food that is nutritionally balanced and kid-friendly, with meals sent home with students on Fridays.
