The Los Angeles Dodgers entered the offseason last year with a major need for outfield help, as Andy Pages was their only projected starter returning for 2025.
To address this issue the Dodgers re-signed Teoscar Hernández on a three-year, $66 million contract, and Michael Conforto was signed to a one-year deal worth $17 million. With the performances of those two players this year, the outfield may again figure to be a priority for the Dodgers before next season.
They have a solution in place to address the deficiency down the line, in the form of top prospects Josue De Paula and Zyhir Hope, but the organization needs more immediate help as well.
For that reason, the Dodgers are expected to be in involved for Kyle Tucker in free agency as he may not be likely to re-sign with the Chicago Cubs, according to MLB insider Jon Heyman:
“Cubs, are they going to re-sign him? At this point I think it’s kind of not that likely. I wouldn’t rule it out, but I never saw the Cubs as spending $400 million-plus on a player. And I do think Tucker is the number one free agent, because he’s still in his 20s and is such a consistent player. Don’t see him going back to the Cubs, but not going to rule it out. We’ll see.
“The teams that I would look at, Red Sox have a lot of outfielders, but not ruling it out. They still have a lot of money left over from the Devers situation. I think there’s another player more likely they’ll bring back, and I’ll get to him in a second.
“Dodgers, Giants, possibilities for Tucker. Are the Yankees? I don’t know. I think Jones, lefty bat in the outfield, I think right now they’d be looking more at a righty bat than lefty bat.”
After a successful seven-year stint with the Houston Astros, Tucker was traded to the Cubs last offseason in exchange for Isaac Paredes, Hayden Wesneski and prospect Cam Smith.
Tucker has endured some struggles that were ultimately attributed to a hairline fracture in his right hand that wasn’t immediately disclosed, but he otherwise is in the midst of another productive year at the plate.
Dodgers rumors: Kyle Tucker interest
This is not the first time that the Dodgers have been linked to Turker this season.. Back in May, it was reported that the team planned on entering the sweepstakes for his services.
Tucker would represent a significant upgrade over Conforto both on offense and on defense, making a nice pairing with Pages in the outfield and buying time for the Dodgers’ prospects to make their way to the Majors.
