Kiké Hernández Camcorder Video Shows Behind The Scenes Of Dodgers’ Trip To Tokyo

When the Los Angeles Dodgers boarded their chartered chartered flight for Tokyo, one of the photos shared by the team that quickly caught the attention of fans was Kiké Hernández recording on a Sony camcorder.

In some sense it was par for the course with Hernández, given his personality. Whereas the focus with cameras now tends to involve 4K resolution, Hernández opted for more of a vintage feel to capture what was a unique experience for the Dodgers.

Much has been said of their popularity in Japan, but Hernández and others remarked it wasn’t until seeing the adoration for Shohei Ohtani in person that a true grasp set in.

“Obviously the passion of the fans,” answered Hernández when asked what memories he’ll take from the Tokyo Series.

“It’s something I got to experience during the All-Star Series in 2018, but playing alongside Roki, Shohei, Yoshinobu and also seeing Seiya and Shota on the other side, how passionate and how much they love their players kind of reminds me of playing baseball back home in Latin America — Puerto Rico, Dominican, Venezuela.

“Those are really passionate countries as well for their baseball. As far as memories, I think the most special one for me was my daughter seeing snow for the first time ever. We’ve built some incredible core memories, and I know that for my wife and myself, it’s a trip we’ll never forget.

“And I’m pretty sure my 4-year-old is never going to forget coming to Japan, going to Disney Sea a couple days ago and seeing snow for the first time, I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a memorable memory for her.”

Hernández also spoke fondly of the players-only dinner Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Roki Sasaki hosted.

The camcorder footage Hernández recorded of the Dodgers in Tokyo was part of a collaboration with The Players’ Tribune. Hernández offered Dodgers fans an inside look at not just matters related to their games at the Tokyo Dome, but also some of his exploring the country.

Hernández’s fun-loving approach made for entertaining exchanges with teammates, and also with MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, who at times has drawn the ire of several players.
