Justin Turner Rumors: Brewers, Blue Jays Among Interested Teams

With all indications pointing to Spring Training camps opening in three weeks, teams are now facing a time crunch to fill the various holes on their roster. For the Los Angeles Dodgers, their biggest order of business is finding a resolution with Justin Turner.

Turner is believed to be seeking a four-year contract as he gets set to enter his age-36 season. The Dodgers have been hesitant to dole out a contract of that length and reportedly prefer to re-sign him to a deal that does not exceed two years.

While there hasn’t been much progress in talks, the Dodgers are said to feel confident in their ability to re-sign Turner. He has drawn interest elsewhere, primarily from the Toronto Blue Jays.

However, Turner’s market may be a bit more active than anticipated. According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, the Blue Jays are joined by the Milwaukee Brewers as external teams with interest in the third baseman:

The Brewers are one of two mystery teams showing interest in Justin Turner. Dodgers, Jays and one more mystery contender are in the derby. Turner will only consider contenders but has a final 4.

Prior to the Dodgers, Blue Jays and Brewers, the Washington Nationals were another team that has been connected to Turner. Though, they were presented as more of a potential option than real interest.

Of the teams publicly linked to Turner, the Dodgers still appear to be the best fit for his services. Not only is he still a productive player, but his impact extends off the field as well.

The Blue Jays hypothetically could sign Turner and play him at either third base or designated hitter, but it is unclear where they stand financially after signing George Springer to a six-year, $150 million contract. Furthermore, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has expressed a desire to handle duties at the hot corner.

Although the Brewers might have interest, they aren’t necessarily projected to be a contender this season.

Dodgers predicted to sign Turner, Marcus Semien

If the Dodgers re-sign Turner as many expect, they could still look to bring in Oakland Athletics free agent Marcus Semien to fill a utility role.

L.A. is in the market for another right-handed bat or two after seeing Kiké Hernandez sign with the Boston Red Sox, although they certainly have the depth to replace him.
