The Chicago Cubs’ Jason Heyward won a 2017 Rawlings Gold Glove Award for his defensive play in right field this season. Heyward was voted the winner over Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig and Giancarlo Stanton of the Miami Marlins.

Heyward has now won the award four consecutive seasons. Puig ranked fourth among qualified National League right fielders in innings played (1,201.2), ahead of Heyward (919) but behind Stanton’s mark of 1,312.1.

The 26-year-old paced the league in Defensive Runs Above Average (DEF), with 5.1. Heyward placed second with a total of 1.7, while Stanton followed directly behind him with zero.

Among qualifiers, Puig finished the season with the best UZR/150 (15.5), while Heyward (10.3) and Stanton (7.1) checked in at second and third, respectively.

Puig tied with Heyward for the most Defensive Runs Saved, with 18. Stanton was a distant third in the category, having saved 10 runs with his glove and arm.

Puig committed just one error this season and recorded four assists. What’s more, he posted the second-highest fielding percentage in right field at .996 — one decimal point below the Atlanta Braves’ Nick Markakis for the NL lead.

Puig is the first Dodgers player to earn Gold Glove honors since Andre Ethier did so in 2011. Corey Seager was a Gold Glove finalist for his play at shortstop this season, but ultimately lost out to the San Francisco Giants’ Brandon Crawford.
