The Los Angeles Dodgers dropped their series opener, 6-4, against the Washington Nationals on Jackie Robinson Day as Tyler Glasnow struggled to find his rhythm.

Glasnow was making his first start since a historic outing where he struck out 14 hitters over seven scoreless innings, but the results this time were far from the same.

It was the first time Glasnow has struggled in a Dodgers uniform as he pitched five innings, giving up six runs on eight hits, managing only five strikeouts and walking two.

CJ Abrams gave him trouble throughout his outing, starting the night off with a double before coming around to score on a wild pitch. He also tied the game with a solo home run in the third to make it 2-2.

Joey Gallo doubled in Jesse Winker, who also reached base via a double to put the Nationals up 3-2. Then in Glasnow’s final inning, a single from Winker and walk from Gallo set the table for Luis García Jr., who capitalized with a three-run homer.

The Dodgers scored their first run on a sacrifice fly from Will Smith to drive in Shohei Ohtani, and their second run came by another sac fly, this time from Chris Taylor in the second inning.

Ohtani came around to score again in the sixth inning after reaching on catcher’s interference. Smith brought him home with a ground out to third base.

The Dodgers added another run in the eighth when Teoscar Hernández doubled and Max Muncy drove him in with a single. However, they were unable to complete the comeback.

Ricky Vanasco made his MLB debut and pitched two scoreless innings, while Nick Ramirez also pitched two scoreless.

Dodgers honor Jackie Robinson with pregame ceremonies

Prior to the game, the Dodgers held a team meeting at the Jackie Robinson statue in the Center Field Plaza for the fourth consecutive year. They were joined by the Washington Nationals as well, with both managers Dave Roberts and Dave Martinez speaking, along with former Dodger Reggie Smith and Dr. Harry Edwards.

“It’s a great day,” Roberts said. “And kind of in conjunction along with the Nationals, I think that we’re starting to establish a pretty cool tradition for the players, to get them together in front of Jackie’s statue, and just have a little bit of time to reflect and go back years and understand impact, legacy and responsibility to us.

“So we had an opportunity to listen to Dr. Harry Edwards, which was great. He flew down from the Bay. And then also a good friend of mine, former Dodger, Dodger great, baseball great Reggie Smith. So he spoke and gave some anecdotes. And so I was really pleased for him to join us, and obviously having the players here.”
