What was another sleepy and frustrating night night for the Dodger Stadium faithful quickly caught fire when benches and bullpens of the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants spilled onto the field.

At the center of it, before teammates and coaches could intervene, were Nick Hundley and Yasiel Puig. Known to wear his emotions on his sleeve, Puig reacted out of frustration over fouling off a pitch from former teammate Tony Watson.

Replay appeared to show Puig ask Hundley what he said, and he emerged from his crouch as the two then began to exchange words. Puig shoved Hundley, and players rushed out of the dugouts and bullpens.

Following the Giants’ dramatic win, Hundley declined to offer any specifics over what transpired, via Bill Shaikin of the L.A. Times:

“It’s obviously a nice rivalry,” Hundley said. “We had some words and pushed a couple of times and you saw what happened. There’s really nothing more to it than that. That’s stuff that’s said on the field and that’ll be left out there.”

Conversely, Puig was willing to share his feelings on the exchange, and he accused Hundley of instructing him to stop complaining. Puig also questioned why the Giants are the only team that regularly tends to be involved in shoving matches and brawls with Puig at Dodger Stadium.

MLB presumably will hand down some form of punishment prior to Wednesday’s series finale, with Hundley and Puig likely facing suspensions.
