Freddie Freeman & Trea Turner Felt First Opening Day With Dodgers Was ‘Pretty Normal’

The Los Angeles Dodgers overcame a slow start offensively to put up a five-spot on Kyle Freeland in the fourth inning and rode that to a 5-3 Opening Day win over the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.

The Dodgers’ lineup featured plenty of familiar faces from the past few seasons, but also had a newcomer in the No. 2 spot as Freddie Freeman played his first season opener with the team. The 2020 National League MVP, who signed a six-year contract with L.A. during the offseason, went 1-for-3 with a walk and hit by pitch in five plate appearances.

“The same,” Freeman answered when asked how this year’s Opening Day compared to his first 12 with the Atlanta Braves. “The excitement is there, it was hard to sleep last night. I’m just excited to get going. Twelve feels the same as one.”

Freeman has addressed several topics regarding his former Braves team since signing with the Dodgers, including reports of friction with Ronald Acuña Jr., but made it clear he has moved on to the next chapter in his career.

“I’ve already done that. I’ve already moved forward,” Freeman reiterated. “I’ve been here for a few weeks now, so I feel good, everything feels good, the family is getting settled, and we’re here in Denver ready to go.”

Turner also enjoyed first Opening Day with Dodgers

In addition to Freeman, Trea Turner also played his first Opening Day with the Dodgers. The 28-year-old was acquired from the Washington Nationals at the MLB trade deadline last year and went 1-for-5 with an RBI against the Rockies.

“Pretty normal. It was good to get back out there,” Turner said after his first season opener with the Dodgers.

“I always enjoy the flyovers and Opening Day national anthem. The energy in the stadium, no matter where you are, is always a little more electric. It gets me going. It felt good to be out there.”
