The Los Angeles Dodgers made several roster moves prior to their series finale against the San Francisco Giants, which included calling up Elieser Hernández from Triple-A Oklahoma City to make a spot start.

The right-hander was effective in his first big league appearance since the 2022 season, holding the Giants to three runs and four hits over six innings of work. Although the Dodgers fell short of completing a sweep, he gave the team some much-needed length.

Hernández was thrilled to start for the Dodgers and is happy to finally be healthy, via Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

“It was really exciting,” he said in Spanish. “I had a lot of injuries last season, but the important thing is that I’m healthy now and enjoying the opportunity they’re giving me.”

Hernández originally signed with the Dodgers on January 12, 2024, as a Minor League free agent after spending all of last year in the New York Mets organization:

“Who doesn’t want to be here?” the 29-year-old said.

“Trust me, I’ve learned so many things about myself that I didn’t even know about. So that’s been great.”

After a solid 2024 debut, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed that Hernández will be sticking around with the team:

Roberts said Hernandez will stay with the Dodgers and pitch out of the bullpen after getting a few days off, giving the Dodgers a reliever with some length.

Prior to being recalled, Hernández appeared in six games (five starts) for Oklahoma City and went 4-1 with a 2.83 ERA and 34 strikeouts over 28.2 innings.

The 29-year-old gives the Dodgers another reliever who is capable of logging multiple innings in any one appearance.

Elieser Hernández MLB career

Hernández pitched in parts of five seasons for Miami Marlins from 2018-2022, going a combined 10-21 with a 5.04 ERA in 90 games (48 starts).
