The Los Angeles Dodgers were thoroughly outhit through the first two games of their series with the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. The issues were all-too-familiar for the Dodgers: starting pitchers struggling to provide length, and their offense went missing.

Colorado was 28-for-71 (.394) with 19 runs scored, five home runs and 7-for-24 with runners in scoring position through the first two games. Los Angeles was 11-for-62 (.177) with five runs, two homers, and just 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

Some of the offensive fireworks that had been seen were gone Wednesday, but the Dodgers still managed to come up with key hits in timely moments.

After the Rockies took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth, Corey Seager tied the game with a solo home run in the fifth.

Adrian Gonzalez kept the inning alive by legging out an infield single that put runners on the corners for Yasmani Grandal.

Grandal broke the 2-2 tie by ripping a two-run triple to the right-center field gap, with video provided via the Dodgers’ Twitter account:

Maeda held Colorado to the two runs over 5.2 innings pitched, and Pedro Baez, Joe Blanton and Kenley Jansen combined for 3.1 scoreless innings. Grandal’s first triple of the season proved to be the difference and the Dodgers avoided being swept.

The three-base hit was Grandal’s first this season and third of his career. The other two both came during his time with the San Diego Padres. After a slow start to the season, Grandal hit a blistering .324/.439/.691 with eight home runs during July.
