Dodgers Video: Vin Scully Credits Wife, Sandy, For His Career Success

When Vin Scully began his broadcasting tenure with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1950 it was impossible to predict the significant role he’d go on to hold with the franchise.

As players, managers and ownership groups have come and gone, Scully’s been a mainstay, endearing himself to Dodgers and baseball fans alike with his mastery in calling games.

For as much praise and recognition that’s constantly heaped on Scully, he routinely deflects the attention and accolades.

“I am the most ordinary man you’ve ever met,” he said during an August press conference to discuss his intention to return in 2016. “I was given an extraordinary opportunity and God has blessed me for doing it all these years.”

In an exclusive interview with CBS 2/KCAL 9 Sports Director Jim Hill, Scully credited his wife Sandy for assuming responsibilities at home in the early stages of their marriage so that he could continue working.

As Scully explains, there were five young children between the two, then the couple had their first child together. He praised Sandy in her getting the three families to mesh, while adding they followed ‘The Brady Bunch’ because of the relatable subject matter.

As for being the wife of a man so revered, Sandy largely downplayed it. The 2016 season will be Scully’s 67th and final year with the Dodgers.
