Dodgers Video: Sergio Romo Honored By Giants During First Game Back At AT&T Park

After 12 years with the San Francisco Giants organization, including nine seasons with the big league club, Sergio Romo donned a new uniform. He signed a one-year contract during the offseason with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

It was a homecoming of sorts for the Brawley Calif., native who grew up as one and in a family of Dodgers fans. Soon after his contract was finalized, Romo spoke fondly of his time with and appreciation for the Giants franchise he won three World Series with.

Romo stressed the parting was not similar to that of Brian Wilson. Nonetheless, Romo wasn’t certain what type of reaction he’d get in his first game at AT&T Park not only as a visitor, but member of the hated Dodgers.

The 34-year-old was well-received, and the Giants honored their former closer by playing a video of his highlights, complete with Romo’s ‘El Mechon’ introduction song. He received a standing ovation and doffed his cap in appreciation, via the Giants Twitter account:

Romo entered the game in the eighth inning with the Dodgers trailing, 2-1. He issued a leadoff walk, induced a flyout, then received help from Yasmani Grandal on Eduardo Nuñez’s stolen base attempt.

Brandon Crawford singled, but Romo struck out Christian Arroyo to complete a scoreless inning in relief.
