Los Angeles Dodgers Spanish-language broadcaster Jaime Jarrín called his final game of the regular season on Wednesday, which was commemorated with a retirement cake and mini celebration in the Dodger Stadium press box prior to first pitch.

Members of the media gathered around Jarrín, who was treated to a heartfelt toast by fellow Dodgers broadcaster Orel Hershiser.

“On behalf of everyone in this room and everyone who has ever encountered you at a baseball game over the last 64 years, of everyone who has been in contact with you professionally, personally, or a fan that has come in contact with you, your warmth, friendship, sincerity and integrity, surpasses everything that anybody could do,” Hershiser said.

“Thank you so very, very much for who you are and what you’ve done for all of us.”

Joe Davis, Hershiser, Fernando Valenzuela and Pepe Yñiguez then were among those to pose for photos with Jarrín before his cake was cut.

Each offered him a congratulatory message and expressed their gratitude for Jarrín’s friendship and guidance.

“I appreciate this very much,” Jarrín told those who gathered. “I want to thank you very much. This is what I’m going to miss. The gatherings here, the friendships I have cultivated, it’s going to be missed. I don’t have enough words to thank you from the bottom of my heart for being my friends, for being my listeners and being just who you are.”

Jarrín is retiring after spending 64 seasons as a Dodgers broadcaster. However, he is poised to remain involved with the organization as a Dodgers ambassador for at least the next two years.

Jaime Jarrín Day

During an on-field ceremony to celebrate the Spanish voice of the Dodgers, Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti presented him with a key to the city, and declared October 1 as Jaime Jarrín Day.

The Dodgers additionally remained his booth to the “Jaime Jarrín Spanish broadcast booth.”
