Dodgers Video: MLB Network Begins NLDS Coverage With Vin Scully Tribute Video

This season was unlike any other for the Los Angeles Dodgers as it marked the end of Vin Scully’s illustrious career. With MLB postseason games shifting to national coverage, Scully elected against working beyond the regular-season finale.

Although Scully walked out of the broadcast booth for the final time on Oct. 2 at AT&T Park, he’s certainly not forgotten. As such, MLB Network began their coverage of the 2016 National League Division Series with a video in Scully’s honor.

Narrated by Tom Selleck, it aired Saturday prior to Game 2 between the San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.

MLB Network will televise Game 3 of the Dodgers-Washington Nationals NLDS matchup, and presumably will again play the video.

Although Scully asked that not become a focal point of the 2016 season after announcing his intention to retire, the Dodgers and others could not help but honor the Hall of Fame broadcaster.

A portion of Elysian Park Avenue that leads into Dodger Stadium was renamed Vin Scully Ave., and the Dodgers had multiple promotional items on their giveaway calendar in Scully’s honor. It culminated with Vin Scully weekend at Dodger Stadium, which included a touching pregame ceremony.

Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten recently said he intends to meet with the now-retired 88-year-old to discuss a plan to keep the renowned voice involved with the organization moving forward.
