The sports landscape in Los Angeles has changed significantly over the past few months, with the National Football League approving the Rams’ relocation from St. Louis.
To further add to the buzz surrounding their return to Los Angeles, the Rams completed a trade with the Tennessee Titans to acquire the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft to put themselves in position to select a franchise quarterback.
That turned out to be Jared Goff out of the University of California, Berkley. Upon being taken with the top pick, a 2013 critical tweet of Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig came to light.
It should be noted that Goff hails from Northern California and is an avid San Francisco Giants fan, so the quarterback understands the rivalry between these two historic franchises.
Puig tweeted his own message to Goff, suggesting the two get an opportunity to meet and burying the hatchet. Prior to Monday’s game against the Colorado Rockies, Goff threw out the ceremonial first pitch to Puig, via Michael Duarte of NBC LA:
The visit to Dodger Stadium and meeting Puig was something Goff enjoyed, according to ESPN’s Doug Padilla:
“We made up a long time ago, but it was good to talk to him,” Goff said. “He’s a real cool guy. It was funny. It was something I tweeted when I was like 17 years old. He thought it was funny and it’s cool to be down here. It’s a good chance to meet him through that crazy way.”
The pair of stars casually conversed before the game and Goff and other Rams players took some swings in the batting cage. Puig gifted Goff a #PuigMyFriend t-shirt, which is a play on the various hashtags he’s used on social media this season.
